Have You Ignored God’s Prompting?
“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”
-John 14: 12-17 (MSG)
Almost ten years ago, I was out on a prayer run when God asked me to write a book. At first, the idea was exhilarating to dream about, and I took a few steps forward, including interviewing a woman with a powerful story. But after a while, my inexperience and lack of knowledge about book-writing and publishing made the task seem insurmountable. I had just given my life to Christ that year, so let's say I hadn't quite grown into my "spiritual britches," and I was paralyzed by fear. I overthought everything and, in the end, let that dream slowly die away.
Seven years later, I saw a book with a title strikingly similar to the one God had placed on my heart, sitting on the New York Times National Bestseller list. And who do you think the main interviewee in that book was? Yep, the same woman that I had originally interviewed for my book.
It was a heartbreaking moment but also a powerful lesson—God showed me what was possible if I stepped forward in obedience. Now, I want to clarify something here: it wasn't a shameful moment. God wasn't punishing me for my disobedience. He was shifting my perspective to His perspective.
I felt Him saying through the Holy Spirit, "See what I can do with your obedience and faith my beloved daughter? Faith that surpasses all understanding will produce miracles, but you must believe and do as I ask." Just as Jesus said, "...whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (John 14:12, NIV).
And God was faithful to redeem that dream; He had already whispered a new book into my heart—one that I am still in the process of completing and that inspired writing these very devotionals that hit your inbox each week. Progress is slow, but I'm taking imperfect action and choosing to have faith that God can do immeasurably more than all we can ever ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20) with the little we have or can give (John 6:9).
God will turn your obedience and humble offerings into a feast of blessings when you dare to step out in faith despite fear and have the courage to act on the evidence of 'things yet to come.'
So, when God asks you to:
Write a book, but "you're not a writer" and never aspired to be - step out in faith… He will equip you just like he did for Moses.
Ask for the sale, but "you're afraid of the rejection" - step out in faith… He will embolden you, just like he did for David.
Strike up a conversation with someone sitting next to you at church, but "you're not outgoing" - step out in faith… He will empower you, like Timothy.
Hire a coach, but "you're feeling unworthy" - step out in faith… He will meet you where you're at like the Woman at the Well.
God can work with a little. He only needs you to believe in His promises and step out boldly in faith, no matter how small the offering.

The Loaves and Fish Practice
Inspired by Matthew 14:13-21, this rhythm reminds us that God multiplies whatever we bring, no matter how small. It also aligns with neuroscience, as gratitude and trust in God shift our brain from fear and scarcity (amygdala-driven stress response) to peace and creativity (prefrontal cortex activation).
Practice Steps:
Offer What You Have – Take a few deep breaths. Place your hands in front of you, offering something to the Lord. Speak aloud or write down what little you feel you have today—your energy, time, ideas, faith (even if it’s as small as a mustard seed).
Give Thanks in Advance – Just as Jesus gave thanks before the miracle, express gratitude for what God is already doing behind the scenes. Gratitude rewires your brain for faith and possibility.
Release the Outcome – Open your hands as a symbol of surrender. Pray, "Lord, I trust You to multiply what I bring. I rest in Your provision and timing."
Step Forward with Expectancy – End with a small, faithful action. It could be writing down one step to take, sending an email, or simply walking in peace instead of anxiety today. Pay attention to what God does with your offering today.
Journaling Question: Where in your life have you been holding back because you feel like what you have isn’t enough? How might God be inviting you to step forward in faith anyway?
